Counting The Cost

Furlough011 001

Haven’t written in a while due to travel. We left Fri 22nd in a mad whirlwind and haven’t stopped since. Said goodbye for the summer to my pup Lilly (sob) and sold Snakey to two eager teenagers. (We are sure Snakey is onto better horizons as he was outgrowing his tank at our place.) We packed three bags (they now want to charge 31 quid for each extra bag!!) and cleaned the house before heading out the door. However, not before unblocking an untimely drain overflow.

Flights were packed but uneventful, we arrived safely but one suitcase was delayed two days, and my DS was ill all night due to travel exhaustion which of late has been his tradition.

God never seems to amaze me at how much can be accomplished and yes sometimes it is costly.

The Clean Up Crew

This is a picture from ‘The Bee Man’s’ observation box at the back of the garden.  These are a few old frames he is about to discard and these few bees are collecting what remains of the honey.  It is amazing how clean these bees will get it. He has been known to put a colander covered in honey in the box and it comes out as clean as if it had been washed with soap and water.

Inspiring and Therapeutic.

Last week I had coffee with a friend whom I have not seen for probably a couple of years.  We chatted like it was only yesterday and gave each other blow by blow details of how life has been.  It was very inspiring and completely therapeutic. Let’s not leave it so long next time!

Father and Son Time

Father and Son time, I love it.

I have a great memory of my father working on the brakes of my bike when I was about 6 years old. He had me sit on the seat and steady the bike whilst he worked on it.

Bee Man and DS are fixing all the deflated balls.  Couldn’t resist this camera opp.

The Big Weigh In

I completely lost the plot this week. It is the last 8 days of the school term and if any of you have worked in school you know what that can be like.  Fortunately I have a very organized principle and we dispensed the usual end of term ceremonies a few weeks ago. Nevertheless, it’s all consuming.

SO, I said all that to say I did not spend any time exercising or watching what I put in my mouth this week. Consequently the scales went up 1lb.  Oh well! AND now I am getting ready to leave for the USA for the Summer. Well, I am going to take a six week sabbatical from this series and will see you in September. I don’t think it would do much for me to try to lose weight whilst visiting friends and family.  However, hopefully I won’t put too much on and will continue to live healthily. See you here in September.

Attended a traditional Hehndi party this week. An Indian  Hehndi is a pre-wedding party celebrated by the bride and groom.  The men entered the room first dancing to the beet of Indian drumming then the bride entered under a veil canopy that was then lowered to cover her.

The Ladies were invited to sit around the bride to be and share marriage wisdom.

Mehndi (or Henna) is then decoratively applied to the brides hand and the women guests are invited to be decorated.

This Was Such A Good Idea I wish I Had Thought Of It!

I just received this great invite to a Baby Shower. We were encouraged to bring a baby book that meant something to us.  What a fab idea!

We were even provided with book plates to stick inside

Marching Band

As a Boys Brigade member DS was asked to accompany the Girls Brigade for their Annual District March.  I am so proud!

The Big Weigh In

I weighed in at 9.10 today which means 1lb weight loss. My immediate thought was, “I’ll take that,” because, although it is only a 1 pound loss, it is going in the right direction.  I have read that scales are not always accurate at showing your progress because if you are building muscle it can throw off the scales. (That is my story and I am sticking to it!)

I did not do well at jogging this week.  Getting up at 6:15 AM to jog is definitely more of a sacrifice than I can give especially at the end of the school year.  If I haven’t had too difficult of a day I can squeeze out a little more energy for a run after school. Even Lilly is beginning to enjoy a little jog instead of her usual tree sniffing saunter!  So that is my new goal for this week – exercise after school.

More Next week.

Me in July

Reading ‘Boundaries with Kids’, by Dr. H Cloud and Dr. J Townsend, and making notes for my work.

Sitting – don’t seem to have much time for this at the moment but I am noticing a strange phenomenon in my life.  I am opting for sitting in my bedroom in the evening as opposed to sitting in front of the T.V. for the final hour of the night.   I think I am getting bored with T.V. watching! huh!

Listening to God for direction in my ‘going out and coming in”.

Checking out physical fitness. After gaining 10 menopause pounds I have been thwarted, on every side, to lose weight. So, I am learning about increasing my exercise and boosting my physical fitness in an attempt to go down one size.

Experiencing gel nails and loving them. This is a really girly thing to say but all of my life I have struggled with keeping my nails nice. I am now in a professional capacity that I need to look nice and they just give me that edge!

Looking forward to seeing family and friends this Summer.

Happy 4th July!

…Land that I love.

The Big Weigh In

Haven’t had a great weight loss this week = 2lbs. I’ve eaten loads of fruit and veg and exercised more frequently. That’s my way of saying that I wasn’t as faithful with the running as I would like to be and maybe that’s why I only lost 2lb!

I have worn my pedometer most days just to see what my regular daily activity was like and I was surprised to see that I cover 6-7 miles on a daily basis. Why aren’t I as skinny as a rake?  I think I am going to take the time to learn about BMI this week as it might answer some questions for me.

I am awaiting some news on some local Zumba classes as I have heard they are great for a good work out and I came across a second hand copy of Scrappy Sue’s read, ‘Yoga Burns, drop a dress size in 7 weeks’. I am willing to try anything. More next week on ‘10lbs or Bust’

Finally…I can point and Shoot Again!

As some of you may know my P&S suddenly died on me after only 15 months of use.  After a few quotes we realized it would be more cost affective to throw it away and purchase a new one.  This will probably mean I won’t be investing in my new high end camera this year but after the wonderful week of D-SLR Photography in focus (first post) I felt a little more educated about what I wanted this time.

I bought a Canon Powershot a480.  This time I looked for a pocket camera that had AA batteries as opposed to a Lithium battery which is a pain to recharge if you are abroad.  It has 10 mgpxl and 3.6 Opt. Zoom. No image stabilization but a sensitive ISO range to compensate. Good macro features that will allow me to shoot as close as 1cm from object and will allow some manual selection of settings.  It has a faster shutter speed and less shutter lag than my previous camera. I am happy.  So I am learning that all cameras are not created equal even if the cost is the same.  I am looking forward to seeing what this camera is capable of.

Here’s a few shots from our day at the farm.

I took this photo whilst moving on a tractor and in zoom! Quit impressive quality don’t you think.

I usually have to spend time editing but this photo was only cropped and the exposure and color looks great.
