Color Challenge

I saw these leaves and was thoroughly inspired.

However, I know their vibrancy will be short lived.  I would love to decorate my home with such rich colors as we come into autumn. How can I extend their life and my appreciation of their loveliness?

Then it came to me. I think I will use them as my color palate for cards for next month. I need a whole bunch of thank you cards and it would be brilliant to have seasonal cards to use. What about a scrapbook page? You could create one for October with a picture to reflect the month and use these fall colors. Or you could make a lovely seasonal decoration to adorn your home.

So, I’ve decided to have a little fun.  On the 4th Saturday of the month I will post a color palate in preparation for the upcoming month.  If you are interested in joining me for the challenge leave a comment and let me know. Then sometime that month post your creations to your blog linking back to the color challenge post from “The View…” and send me your blog link. I will include your link to loveliness with the next color challenge post.  So of you go and make something colorful.

Next post is 22nd October

The Big Weigh In

014Well it’s been at least two months since I reported on, ‘The Big Weigh In’, and that was intentional as I was off to the USA for the summer. Our time away also included a one week cruise to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary and I was not going to worry about weight on such an extravagant occasion.

So it’s time to get serious once again. Only now, the 10lbs of excess weight is more like 15lbs!  (that’s ok, I still don’t regret having a good time)

Lets recap:- I was going to run and I bought the book ‘Yoga Burns’. I didn’t give either a serious try but was not highly motivated to do so. I walk 25 minutes a day and run after little ones at work all day (about 7 miles on the pedometer) and so have no enthusiasm to go out again in the evening. In fact it is all I can do to walk the dog.

As a result I have decided to give Zumba a try. I love to dance and so this should help the motivation level. I have bought DVD’s as I know joining a class will be short lived because of the time involved.  I have it on the testimony of several people that Zumba does a great job in slimming and toning, not to mention the energy consumption.  I will get back to you on that one. I am also trading in my walking shoes to ride my bike. I will now do the journey both ways instead of walking in and riding home on the bus.  As you can see I have put a great deal of thought into this.  It has to fit into my life to work!

The next consideration is diet. I am not a good dieter. I hate the sacrifice and I don’t have the time and room for complicated programs. However, diet I must.  I made a decision this week to give the DUKAN diet a try.  I have seen a couple of friends use it and loose loads of weight and look stunning.  It seems to be a very easy plan to follow and you are not counting calories for the rest of your life. So I ordered the book from Amazon and I will get back to you with more next week.  Here we go….more next week (or should that be less,… of me next week)

Online Help For Christmas Planning

Looking around the web to see what Christmas planners were already out there. I came across Organized Christmas I really like this site as it has lots of helpful print outs. It also has a six week organizer that you can sign up for but I know I will need more than six weeks if I am going to be ready. Another good site for planners is Christmas Planner. Here is Flylady's holiday Planner. A British site Christmas is coming .  Style at home has an eight week plan . I also signed up for the 100 days to Christmas challenge which you can get delivered to your mail box here .

Making a List , Checking it Twice

It seems like September is the month for lists. Christmas card lists, gift lists, menu plan, social diary, etc.,  I think once the lists are made then it is easier to plan, budget, and proceed.

- Cards take time to make and write, not to mention if you are mailing overseas.

- Now is the time to get decent bargains so knowing what kinds of gifts to get and the sizes you need would be helpful if out shopping.

- There are lots of ingredients you could stock up on now if you have the space and it would cut the cost in December. If you keep a list of ingredients you could get things on sale that won’t perish and then cross them off your list.

- How many times have you been caught out at Christmastime because you were not in charge of your schedule. Make sure you are up to date on your calendar so that important things don’t slip away. Especially make sure all the mundane things like health checks and hair appointments don’t get left till last minute as you could be disappointed.

Now you know what areas you need to think about begin by making your lists for each one. A list is like a launch pad!

Making a List of To Do’s (For Christmas)

  1. Cards
  2. Gifts
  3. Decorating
  4. Food and beverage
  5. Traditions
  6. Social engagements
  7. Hospitality
  8. Fun things to do

I have an organizational brain so it is not hard for me to organize the main jobs into these areas.  Can you think of any I need to add?  I will leave this in the side bar just to remind myself.

Countdown to Christmas

I love Christmas! Ever since I was a child I have loved the magic that is Christmas. Today I know that the true meaning of Christmas is nothing less than a miracle; The Birth of Jesus our Savior. It is because of this truth that I continue to enjoy celebrating and passing on family traditions.

It is important to me and my family that the Christmas holidays are filled with joy and worship and that we as a family create lots of fond memories. This includes sending lots of lovely homemade cards, cooking and baking mouthwatering goodies, filling the house with homemade decorations, and sharing the love of God with others by inviting them to our home.

However, like most of you reading this, life is so busy that I often don’t accomplish all that I set out to do or else I end up wearing myself out. So, with fresh determination this year I am making a plan. My plan is to have the cards made and sent early, house tidy and decorated, gifts bought, wrapped and sent, and baking and food prep done early so that we can all relax and enjoy the worship together! I got this  Christmas countdown clock to keep me in check and I will share more helpful finds as I go. Now I am going to go and make a hot chocolate and surf the net!

Nothing More Delightful

furlough 2011 010

There is nothing more delightful, at Grammy and Pa’s, than sitting on the deck at the end of the day.  Feet up in a comfy chair and breathing in the warm evening air. Chatting about life and stuff and sipping a cold soda. AHHH! Warm summer evenings.

I caught this humming bird at the feeder.

Yet Another Opportunity to Cry out in Prayer

You can’t choose your child’s friends or loyalties and you stand by at the ready as you watch them repeat the same mistakes that you did. I want to forbid him from seeing such friends. To wrap him in cotton wool. BUT these are the lessons life is made of. Lessons we are still learning ourselves. This is yet another opportunity to cry out in prayer. I know I can safely leave it there.

Hello Again

So, why the long breaks, lack of communication and icy relationship? No, I haven’t found another pastime. I’ve been on a whirlwind trip to the east coast of USA.  I will unroll the trip blow by blow as we had an amazing time. So, do pardon me for my absence AND I’m back.

I had quite a week this week and I am relieved that it is over. We flew back last Friday and I went back to school on Monday still jet lagged and sick to boot. I finally stopped on Wednesday and took a trip to the GP.

My son also went through the works this week. On top of his dreadful re-entry he also had two pre-molars pulled. He was very brave but it was difficult to watch. Those toothy pegs had roots that were at least 5/8ths of an inch!

Till tomorrow. Goodnight and sleep tight.
