Digital Project Life News and Free Tutorials

I’m not an affiliate of J. Sprague but genuinely excited about this course and the Digi goodies.

On January 7th the course, “Digital Project Life with Photoshop” will begin at Jessica Sprague. If you buy the course by December 31st there is a discount.

You can buy a digital core kit for a very reasonable price and you can also buy the templates which are very versatile.

For a blogger this makes sense as you could post the finished page and then get it printed or print it yourself.

Today on J. Sprague they are offering two free sample tutorials to have a go.

This is what I created with Template A and Clementine Core Kit.

A Year of Photos Plus Free Calendar Template and Tutorial.

A common theme at this time of year is to post the years best photos. I love browsing through peoples highlights of the year. Here's a 'Year in Photos" by Anne Voskamp.

And when I get tired of sitting around and doing nothing I’m going to go through my many thousands of photos to find the best for 2012.

I wanted to let you know that My Memories Suite has a free calendar template and a tutorial to go with it. Here's the quick link. Great if you want to print your own or have a little more flexibility with getting it professionally done.

I would love to see your line-up for 2012. Please feel free to leave a link in the comments.

Well Done Son

I’m so proud of my, soon to be, 14 year old son.

  • Moved to a new continent.
  • Left all that was ‘normal’ behind.
  • left, but a few, of his belongings.
  • Moved into a new Church.
  • He is now living with extended family.
  • Started a new school.

These are some of the major stressors in life. At a tender age in life he has done this with amazing courage and really grown.

Well done son. We are proud of you.

Peppermint Candy Wreath

This was fun and very quick to do. I chose a very cheap straw wreath and left the plastic wrap on it. Fired up the glue gun and started sticking. You have to be careful not to overlap the twisty ends as the candy will not glue securely. Lift up the ends before sticking. This is small but still quite heavy so keep that in mind.

December Daily 9–A little Behind

Well I am a little behind on Dec Daily 2012. I expect most of you who do this for a hobby are probably in the same boat. What with mouths to feed, clothes to wash, and for some ‘a work a day world’,  sometimes a moment to create just gets crowded out.

When I am lagging and feel like I don’t have anymore to give it is then that I reflect, create and am restored.

But that’s why we do this right. To hold on to the spirit of the season. To remind ourselves why we labor. Why we do a little extra and make preparations to celebrate Christmas.  Its all about the heart NOT the work.

Today I got to do some baking. Nothing over the top as I don’t have the courage yet!

A day of Worship and an afternoon of feasting and fellowship. Today we enjoyed the Church Christmas party. The room was filled with joyful people enjoying one another's fellowship and great food.

This was one of five tables filled with food.

What about everyone else? How is it going?

So Grateful For This Moment–Digi LO

Kit by Mommyish ‘Hipster Holiday’ made on Photoshop.

Christmas trees have always had a special place in my heart and this year was extra special because we were able select one from a tree farm and have them cut it for us. Rows and rows of fat, thin, long, short, spiky, and fury trees waiting to be chosen. The smell was amazing and there was not a bad one amongst them. It had too be just the right size for our little country cabin-style apartment, just above my husbands head and not too wide.

Here it is in our little humble abode. I love it.  We are still waiting for my handmade ornaments to arrive from the UK but it still looks glorious in center place.

Evergreen is apparently a symbol of eternal life. I can relate to that. When I was a child I remember being in a pretty reflective mood and staring up at the tree. It kept my attention for a long time and I remember thinking there was something very special about this time of year and that I didn’t know the complete story yet. It felt like that tree was a promise of something that only the passage of time would reveal. Years later I understand the true meaning of Christmas. Christ the King, born in a humble stable to bring light, hope and eternal life to all who believe. Christ the Savior, hung on a tree to satisfy the punishment that should have been for me. Christ the Lord, now preparing a heavenly home and someday returning for me.

Yes, these gifts were waiting for me.  If that tree could speak it would have told me so. So you see, when I choose my tree and decorate her I think of the gift that she spoke of years ago. I breath in her perfume and reflect on the ‘Eternal Life’ that is reminded of therein.

December Daily - The List

It seems that kids don’t write a wish list anymore they leave a file with live links on your desk top! I think this might be expensive!!

December Daily - Thank You Mum

Part of being in Virginia means we have opened some of our personal belongings from over 20 years ago. This plaster ornament was a gift from my mother that was put away in a box and never used. How delightful it is to use it after all this time. It sits on my craft table all glistening and bright.

Thank you mum!

Things I Love At Christmas

Time to start decorating. These are some of my favorite things.

Poinsettias, blood red, velvet like and full of promise.

Candles, burning, crackly and smelly.

Home made wreaths that say welcome and rejoice.

I’m now living in a small rural area and I couldn’t even buy a wreath base! Found this wreath at a thrift store and rebuilt it.

For my album I bought an old children’s hardback book from the library. It has these wonderful little markings that I will work with. I decorate the front and carefuly remove pages so that the book won’t fall apart. I always make sure my pics are touching acid free papers all around.

December Daily 1

I am merrily building my foundation pages. Yes, I know, they should have been done already but I’m new at this. Besides I am very poor at decorating a page before I know what the photo is going to be. Doing it the other way around and letting my pages determine my photo is a tough one. So it is a learning curve and I am trying, honest!

I di a few basic matting and layering pages and I am using journaling cards to write my story each day.

I have decided to post my photos as I go along. I am saving them in JPG format to get them printed all at once. Then I’ll slot them right into my page and Voila, a Christmas Album. That’s the idea anyway.

Here’s the first set.

Digi LO….. Capturing A Moment In Time

Another moment in time that I want to freeze.

It won’t be long now.

There’s that crack in the voice,

The one that signifies the onset of manhood and farewell to the child.

I must be brave,

For your sake.

MMS Review …Chillaxin” and MMS giveaway.

Several weeks ago I was invited to become an affiliate member with My Memories Suite. In return I was given a copy of MMS3 to try out for myself and review on ‘The View”.

Why not? I was in the middle of a free trial with the new Stampin’ Up digi software and not incredibly impressed for the price so it was a good time to try a comparison software.

I consider myself a beginner and have struggled to teach myself PSE this year. The rewards are promising but the labor is intensive and you have to be patient. Time is a luxury for me so I do get a little downhearted. One step forward and two back!

This is were MMS3 has really filled the gap for me. It is loaded with ready made albums that you can add your photos to or select to have the photos automatically added. I haven’t tried the automatic option (way too OCD for that) but I can see how building a file of album ready photos and then loading them into a ready made album would be great for a project that needs to be done quickly.

My use of the product at the present is to display blog LO’s so it is important that I don’t have to spend lots of time building a page just to get my blog entry done. I have both built my own pages and used one of the ready made templates and have found both really easy to do. Here's an LO where I used a ready made template and added pics, journaling and a title. This was extremely simple to do and looks great. When you open your photos you simply place over the frames and they snap right in . The title I added with their text tool. Here's one I put together myself using a kit.

You can use any of the artwork that is ready loaded, you can shop online from My Memories or you can access your own pre bought digi kits from your computer. I like the fact that it is compatible with other digi kits because I have invested loads already and want to continue using them.

They have an online helps on the menu bar and I have used it once or twice plus there are MMS tutorials available. I am impressed by the amount of support and development that seems to be going into this product and I believe they are around to stay. In the last month that I have been a member they have already upgraded to MMS4.  Check it out. They have a free trial and if you want the full version my code to the left will get you $10 off and $10 to spend in the shop.

Made with a pre-owned kit designed by Doris Castle called Heart and Soul.

Competition announcement

Hop over to the My Memories site and have a look at the digital kits. If you get back to me in the comments and let me know what your favorite kit is you will be entered to win a copy of MMS software. Closing date will be Nov 30th and announcement will be made Saturday December 1st. Happy Holidays!

Digital LO - Harvest Happiness

My-Album-1-001Made using Fall Fling Kit by Lori Whitlock

After spending a year in England with virtually no summer I can’t tell you how therapeutic the sunshine has been. I can sit and soak in for hours and feel like I am healing. I wish I could capture it in a bottle and take it everywhere I go so that I never need to be without it ever again!

December Daily – Prep

I have not done December Daily with Ali Edwards before but I like the idea. I always take tons of pictures but don’t do as much with them as I would like. I need to keep it simple or I know I won’t complete it. I like the idea of using a mask and slotting my 5 x 7’s right into the frame. This was my first attempt at creating a mask in My Memories Suite. It’s very basic but will do the job. At the end of the month I will get them printed and stick them in a home made album.

I am thinking of creating an album with page protectors and a cover fastened with rings. I will put the pic on one side and create a journal card with embellishments on the adjoining page. I will try to create the journal cards as I go and decorate each evening. That way I can slip my pics in once printed. Well it’s a plan anyway!

Tales of a City Girl at the Country Craft Fair

My day started with a local Church craft fair and ended with a Garage Sale (Boot Sale to my British counterparts). It’s the first craft related outing that I have had since leaving London so you can imagine my excitement. It was everything you can imagine a Church craft fair to be. Local ladies, young and old alike, were selling their beautiful handmade crafts. Lots of lovely quilts, soaps and jewelry. I was most impressed by a table of wooden plaques which were hand painted with nostalgic and inspirational quotes. It was hard to choose but finally I decided on this one.

I also picked up these treasures

Two great hard backed books for my Christmas collection (one that I will use to develop a 12 days of Christmas blog theme – stay tuned) an 8”doily which I am looking forward to turning into something wonderful. There’s lots of lovely pinterest boards on doily crafts such as  Diane Hover. As a way of encouragement, I bought this great little corked back tile that had been decorated and mod-podged, for a small price of $1.50. AND finally, my great Garage Sale find, this wonderful wood display shelf complete with a little towel bar on the bottom for decorative linens. A very inspirational day!

Next Saturday is the Marion Christmas Bizarre at the town Farmers Market. I smell the Wassail and mince pies already!

21 Ways To Connect With Your Kids

I think we can never do enough to connect with our kids. Here’s a promising book by Kathi Lipp. She’s also offering a 5 day challenge on her site.

Parents spend a good chunk of time making sure their kids are okay--they're getting good grades, doing their chores, and doing just enough cleaning that their rooms won't be condemned if the Board of Health happens to drop by. 21 Ways to Connect with Your Kids offers a straightforward, workable plan to create new avenues of connection between parents and their kids. This handy guide coaches moms and dads to do one simple thing each day for three weeks to connect with their kids.

Written in Kathi's warm and compassionate but thought-provoking tone, this book will motivate parents to incorporate great relationship habits into their daily lives and give them confidence that they can connect with their kids even in the midst of busy schedules.

Author Bio

Kathi Lipp is the author of seven books including 21 Ways to Connect with Your Kids, The Husband Project, and Praying God’s Word for Your Husband. She speaks 60-70 times a year to women across the US about loving God and loving those God has put in their path.  Find Kathi at

A Day In The Life – My Memories Suite 3

Just downloaded My Memories Suite 3 from and I am having a play. This is the first page of one of their album templates. It was as easy as slotting the picture in. I can’t say much about it yet as I haven’t had a good play. However, I am already impressed.

MyMemories_Suite_3_coverI purchased Photo Shop Elements at the end of last year with the goal of learning to use it this year. It is not a user friendly program and I have no time to learn. What few things I have managed to pick up in tutorials I have forgotten by time I get back to it. I will soldier on but if I want to actually get any pages done and enjoy the available art that is on the market these days this might be the way to go.

In the next few days I will be posting a discount code if anyone is interested. More soon.
