Their Eyes Got So Big!

Template courtesy of DLTK .IMG00001-20110328-1607Thanks to some generous ladies at UKS we were able to make these lovely Easter wreathes at After School Club.IMG00003-20110328-1624Children are so creative when you supply them with wonderful goodies like these.  Their eyes get so big that you would think they have not seen anything like it before (and maybe some of them haven’t.IMG00004-20110328-1626I volunteer my time and the children pay on donation basis but it doesn’t stretch far enough to cover the cost of lovely extras like these. IMG00002-20110328-1624Three cheers for UKS!  Thanks girls.

49 Things With You Before I am 50

BFS prompt 6

This is quite a big year for me. I will celebrate both my 20th wedding anniversary and my 50th birthday.  I have various things in store for me and hubby, which doubtlessly you will hear about later, but I wanted a special way to celebrate with Dear Son.

DS will turn 13 next year and will officially be a teenager.  I am gradually seeing the boy grow in to a young man.  The childhood years are slowly slipping away and there is so much we haven’t done yet! What happened?  There will shortly come a time that he will not want to craft with Mum anymore, if that time isn’t already here.

SO, I decided to make a bucket list, ‘49 Things To Do With You Before I Am 50.’  A year long project of things we have yet to do. I dedicated a blog to the project which holds the list and photos of the activities as we do them. I intend to present DS with a blog book at the end of the year.

BFS Prompt 3

I have found so many lovely craft projects in my blogging journey that I didn’t want to lose. There is no way that I could store all of them on my lap top and not get completely overwhelmed. So I decided to dedicate a blog purely to listing projects that I wanted to keep. This way I can categorize and link back any time I want and others can to. My Favorites

Pop on over and have a look around. If you hit on archive it will bring everything up.

Hello ‘Blogging for Scrapbookers 2011’

As you will see from my blog it is quite new. I am quite pleased with what I have been able to accomplish in such a short time. I have also started a few other blogs that are less general and you can see the list at the top right hand corner.

Feeling the need for some basic training I downloaded Shimelle’s class last year from her web site. The class had ended so I worked through it by myself and found the info very helpful. So, I was thrilled to hear that she was going live with the class again and that I was invited to join in.  I am looking forward to receiving some inspiration from all of you and picking up some more helpful tips from Shimelle.   Hugs Lorraine

Hybrid Blossoms

Saw this idea here and thought it would be great to liven up my dingy hearth.

First Hubby cut me some saplings (discovered on the way home from Church this A.M.)

Then I removed the flower heads from some inexpensive silk flowers.

Next I glued them on my saplings with my hot glue gun

And voila! now we have a place for our Easter display.

Wall Art

After seeing some interesting wall art I thought I would have a go. I got this Ikea frame from a charity shop and daubed it with brown acrylic paint. As it is a mirror I though it would be perfect for the bathroom. I have seen a cute sign ‘Wash, brush, floss, flush’, but have decided I’d rather go for something more inspirational.

This Puts a Smile in My Heart!

Family Fun day at School

I had to work today but it wasn’t so bad. I got to give up my usual Saturday Oasis in exchange for serving at the Family Fun Day.

Once a year we put on a retreat for parents and kids. They sign up for fun activities to do together such as cooking, crafts, circus skills, i.c.t.. forensic science and Bolliwood dancing etc.,  It’s to strengthen family relationships and help parents learn new ways to spend time with their kids.  It was lots of fun.

All in an Afternoons… Blogging

Worked for most of the afternoon preparing for After-School Bible Club. However, today I posted my lesson plan on my other blog with all the links to the resources. Next time I need to produce the lesson I won’t have to dig out all the masters or go hunting for the resources because they will be at my finger tips no matter where I am.  The added blessing is that others will be able to use them also. A good afternoons work I would say. Lesson Plan

Choice Fruit

Saw this idea here and decided to make one of my own.

Got the graphic from Graphics Fairy and printed it on the closing page of a book.

Then I ran it through my photo copier.

I cropped it, aged the edges with ranger ink, matted. layered, and framed it. Viola!

Pancake Day

Today Is Shrove Tuesday or, “Pancake Day” as some call it. Shrove Tuesday is the day before Lent begins. As Lent was a forty day fast, of some kind, Shrove Tuesday was an opportunity to use up the surplus goodies and thus Pancake Day was born.

Annual “Pancake Day” was a tradition I grew up with in my British home. My American husband thought it very sad that I only had pancakes once a year! Ha! However, the kind of pancakes we have on Pancake Day are not your American style pancakes, no, they are crepe style pancakes rolled in icing sugar and sprinkled with lemon. Yum. They are not better, just different. Tonight we had pancakes for dessert. Here’s the recipe ...

Me in March 2011

Reading lots of blogs in Google Reader. Comparing what is out there and finding courage to write my own.

Sitting I don’t seem to do much of this but I do insist on sitting with my son when he walks in from school. We have a snack and debrief. Most of the time he doesn’t feel like talking but I want him to know he is important to me.

Listening so that I can promote emotional literacy in others as well as myself.

Checking Out windows Movie Maker. Trying to learn how to put old snapshots to music and upload them. It’s harder than learning photoshop!

Experiencing Facebook. Yes, I have finally taken the plunge. After seven years we decided I should be the one to put a toe in.

Signs of Spring

The temperatures in London were between 4-8 c most of the week. Brrr! I am ready for some cheery weather.

Time to get new specs. I was told by the assistant that I should go for square glasses as my rounded ones were dated and I was not(my new best friend).  So we went for these…

My DS responded sincerely, “very nice Mom, now you look like a Geek!
