Pancake Day
Today Is Shrove Tuesday or, “Pancake Day” as some call it. Shrove Tuesday is the day before Lent begins. As Lent was a forty day fast, of some kind, Shrove Tuesday was an opportunity to use up the surplus goodies and thus Pancake Day was born.
Annual “Pancake Day” was a tradition I grew up with in my British home. My American husband thought it very sad that I only had pancakes once a year! Ha! However, the kind of pancakes we have on Pancake Day are not your American style pancakes, no, they are crepe style pancakes rolled in icing sugar and sprinkled with lemon. Yum.
